Fourth SWM training at Balangoda UC

100_1463Learning from others' experience is very important for many professionals because with that  they can improve their performances with lesser mistakes. Engaged in highly practical grass root level solid waste management, solid waste managers are such a group of personnels who can make use of others' experience to improve their performance in their local authorities.

Mr. Nimal  Premathilake, Public Health Inspector, Balangoda UC shared his experience of a successful solid waste management programme for the forth time with a gathering of fourty two solid waste managers from nine local authorities on 23rd and 24th December at Balangoda solid waste management-training centre.

Gathering which comprised of SW teams of SW managers, supervisors, drivers and labourers received a hands on training on composting in the composting site of the UC. They also discussed about writing proposals for solid waste grants and preparing a SW plan for a local authority ext. Apart from these   Participants also  got the precious opportunity of discussing the practices adopted by their local authorities in solid waste management.100_1521

Among the Local authorities represented were Alawwa, Anamaduwa, Ambilipitiya, Kundasale, Kahawatta, Kumdasale, Mawathagama and Udubaddawa pradeshiya sabhas and the Gampaha municipal council.  A solid waste manager who will be working for the proposed composting project of Gampaha Hospital and the Community Development Officer in charge of SWM of Wayamba province Mr. Marasinghe also participated in the training session. Mr. Prasad Kumara, PHI Eheliyagoda  pradeshiya sabha  also supported in conducting the training programme.
